A single strand of stainless steel wire may be used for straight runs up to 30 metres. If the wire is under 4 metres an end fixing unit is required at each end. If the wire length is between 4-15 metres 1 end fixing unit and 1 tensioner unit are required. If the wire is between 15-30 metres long 2 tensioner units are required. Wire can pass through intermediate posts by drilling a 6.5mm diameter hole through the post.
Stainless steel wire can also be threaded through 1 or 2 posts at right angles (thus saving the cost of end fixing/tensioner units) by drilling through the post at 45 degrees and using tensioner units at each end. When the wire goes around 1 right angle post the maximum wire length is reduced to 25 metres and when around 2 right angle posts the maximum length is reduced to 20 metres.
In order to maintain the tension of the wire a handrail is required.
