Our Datchet Range of Balustrades is easy to assemble. The tempered glass is attached to the Wood Posts by Stainless Steel Glass Clamps.
Assembly Instructions for Datchet Range of Solid Glass Balustrades
1. Erect Wooden Newel Posts. The posts should be no more than 1.6 metres apart if a handrail is used, or 1.4 metres if no handrail is to be installed.
2. Measure distance between posts.
3. Deduct 50mm from the distance between the posts to calculate the width of the glass. (This allows a 25mm gap between the edge of the glass and the post. This gap is required for the glass clamps.)
4. Please note: the glass clamps have lugs in them. These are not required unless the glass overhangs the decking. In the event of the glass slipping, it will only slip to the deck level. We do not supply drilled glass for overhanging balustrades.
5. Measure height of glass that you require. As a guideline we recommend that where a handrail is used that there is a 50mm gap between the bottom of the handrail and the top of the glass. Also that there is a 50mm gap between the bottom of the glass and the decking.
If there is no handrail we recommend that the glass should be aligned with the top of the posts (this is for aesthetic reasons). We do not recommend balustrading without a handrail where the decking is high (over 3 metres from the ground)
The glass is 10mm tempered glass
6. Place your order for Glass Clamps and glass.
7. The glass and Glass Clamps will arrive separately. You should allow around 3 weeks for the receipt of the glass as it is cut to your size and then tempered.
8. Remove the lugs from the glass clamps.
9. Screw the clamps to the wood post. In placing these clamps ensure that if the glass slipped to the deck level, that the top clamp will still support the glass.
10. Assemble the glass between the posts.
